Emergency after hours - response is provided through the OPP directive. For aggressive dogs and public safety concerns related to aggression of dogs, please call 1-888-310-1122. If this is an emergency, call 9-1-1.

For an animal that is suspected to have rabies please call Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) Owen Sound 519-376-3860 and as well as the Canada Food Agency 226-217-8423.

Note: For removal of raccoons, please contact a private animal control agency. If you feel that there is a safety concern with the raccoon due to distemper or rabies, call the OPP at
1-888-310-1122.
Forms & Licences
Every owner shall obtain a Municipal tag for every calendar year by March 31st at a discounted price, fee is regular price if received after March 31st.
That no person shall use a dog tag for a dog other than the dog for which the dog tag was issued;
That no more than three (3) dogs permitted per residence;
If more than three (3) dogs, a kennel licence may be permitted for a “personal use kennel” in accordance to the provisions of the by-law. A “personal use kennel” is defined as, dogs which are kept for show purposes only or personal enjoyment, or for predator control;
If more than three (3) dogs (for commercial use), a kennel licence (Boarding/Breeding Establishments) may be permitted in accordance to the provisions of the Zoning By-law #60-2009, as amended and the Control Dogs and Govern the Care of Animals
By-law #034-2012, as amended.
How to apply: Print application below or pick up a copy at the Municipal Office at 21 Trowbridge Street West, Meaford. Bring in the completed application or mail it in with supporting documents. Mailed-in applications for dog licences will be returned within 10 business days. You can also apply and make payment online for your convenience (see below).

Please be advised that there are different applications (including an inspection) with applicable fees dependent on the type of kennel licences being established.
