It assists applicants in sorting out the minimum requirements necessary in order to apply for a building permit. Those properties which abut a provincial highway or are within 600 feet of a highway must either receive a land use permit or an exemption from the MTO prior to the issuance of a building permit from the Municipality of Meaford.

Here are some recent questions:
Do I need a permit to replace my deck that is less than 24" above grade?
Yes. A permit is required to rebuild an existing deck that is attached to another structure, regardless of it's elevation above grade.
Do I need a permit to build a garden shed?
Yes. A permit is required to build any structure greater than 10 square metres (107 square feet) OR when ever there is plumbing in the structure, regardless of its size. see the Building Code Act 1.(1)
A permit is NOT required to build a garden shed less than 10 square metres that does not have plumbing in it, however ALL structures must comply with zoning. See Zoning By-Law 60-2009 Part 4.0 General Provisions.
Do I need a permit to install solar panels on my building?
Yes. A permit is required to install solar panels on another structure.
Engineering will be required to ensure that the existing structure will be able to safely carry the increased loading as a result of the solar panels.
Any solar array having a name plate rating greater than 10 kW will require a Renewable Energy Approval (REA). This REA will be required to be produced to the Building Department at permit application time.
Do I need a permit to install a new window or door?
Yes. A permit is required to install any new opening.
Do I need a permit to replace my windows or doors?
Maybe.
A permit is not required to replace existing windows or doors as long as they are of equal size to the windows or doors being replaced.
A permit is required to replace existing windows or doors if the new window or door is greater in size than the window or door being replaced.
